I'd like to echo Rick's comments however would like to add that before speaking
with any of my supervisors, I'd like the matter brought to my attention first.
I'd like to think that I am reasonable while still meeting the "intent" of the
code and maybe not the "letter" of the code. I have educated some contractors
as well as been educated myself by them. But if you and I can't come to a
solution that works for everyone, then by all means, move on up that food
chain. If my supervisor is willing to sign off on something I'm not, then I'm a
happy camper. They say that something flows downhill and I say it also flows
uphill. Although this is my personal opinion, I'm sure that it is generally
accepted.

I have even congratulated some contractors with well laid out, clear and
complete submittals. I don't see why it can't go both ways. ;)

City of Dallas tries to treat all persons as "customers" including
public citizens, builders, architects, and contractors. We even have to
take mandatory customer service training classes which is a great help
for all of us.

I agree with Ed.
If you have a problem with me, then I encourage you to speak to my
supervisors or even to city council members to voice your complaints. I
think I've learned most of my knowledge from listening to the many
patient sprinkler contractors in the area who were willing to take the
time to explain things to me.

However, if I'm doing a good job, then please also voice your
appreciation.
Scold me and praise me like a dog...and I'll happily do my best to do
what's right.
