The last couple posts (Mr Greenman, Thom and Mr. Fletcher) have hit on what is driving me nuts about the whole thing. The code enforcement person, along with the fire inspector, seem to view the calibration paperwork as some kind of guarantee. Try explaining that one without a marker board...... It makes me wonder about the accuracy of the atomic clock. For all I know....today is tomorrow or yesterday.
In speaking with the gauge rep this morning I also found out that they can do a multiple point test relatively cheep, but can also match it with NIST standards (whatever they may be), but that involves tearing the gauge apart and it sounds expensive. I got a little more info this morning and it seems the inspector had a situation on his hands where a contractor used a rigged gauge(s). In my response I noted (again) that the only way to solve this for the AHJ to bring his/her own gauge and check with the contractors gauge in a static condition. I noted that calibration will not solve underhandedness. (Is that a word? Spell check seems to think so) Also mentioned to him to have the contractor drop the gauge to 0 at the end of a hydrostatic to eliminate the possibility of the scotch tape trolls messing with the gauge. The fire inspector had just been to a seminar on fire pumps where calibration was part of the subject matter. I AM glad he went to the fire pump seminar (NFPA 20 07 edition I am guessing), but cautioned him to use filters because it doesn't change the applicable edition he is to enforce. I know the AFSA folks have been pretty clear on all there phone seminars. And YES I have learned quite a bit about calibration and gauges. Ready to go back to sticking my thumb in the hose stream and guessing. As for digital (tee-hee) I still get a kick out of seeing calcs with res pressure that runs out to 3 decimal points. :) Round up? Ken Flow Test Scientist - I ordered a nifty lab coat for pump tests. _______________________________________________ Sprinklerforum mailing list [email protected] http://lists.firesprinkler.org/mailman/listinfo/sprinklerforum To Unsubscribe, send an email to:[EMAIL PROTECTED] (Put the word unsubscribe in the subject field)
