Just wanted to invite those to enjoy the pics of what "could" happen...
nothing more.

Chuck,

As a code official I'm merely citing the code. Does that mean I agree,
in many cases no.

However according to the bazillion posts, conversations and outright
complaints I've read, designers and contractors want code officials to
follow the code, agree ?

With that said as a designer, its your prerogative to provide protection
above and beyond the code, we merely review for technical compliance.
But make sure you advise the property owner because invariably they call
us asking if its required by code and we have no choice but to cite the
code.

That's the way it is. I'm a firefighter too and given my druthers
everything and I mean everything would be suppressed.

In regards to the elevator protect / not to protect... As a sprinkler
system "designer" and a fellow firefighter... I have some pictures of an
elevator fire from a University campus building here in the area that
evac'd the building... starting on top of the elevator... and caused
massive $$ dollar damage. NO SPRINKLERS...

Contact me off-forum and I can forward you the pics that I have...

Hello Cherokeefirepro,

When the elevator installers complain about my heads in the shaft and
tell me they are not needed I make them supply me and the AHJ proof they
are not needed. Most times I get to eliminate the head from the top of
the shaft, The head at the bottom is for the trash that is known to
buildup down there.
