And to add to Mr. Ford' response, that is what my Amerex manual states. Memory tells me that Range Guard and Pyro Chem have the same information. But, there are always updates and changes to the codes. I called the Amerex factory this AM and am waiting for a response.

If sprinklers or chemical nozzles are used, UL listed panels will be required for access. I only know of one UL listed panel, Flame Gard @ [email protected] or 800.334.3072. If sprinkler are used, does the water reduce the effectiveness of the wet chemical. I remember a couple of jobs we did where the exhaust system had a water wash system. The water wash system was designed to activate in case of fire. I was advised to disable the water wash in case of fire so the water would not dilute the chemical.

Quoting from Ansul's R-102 design Manual 3/1/07 Rev #7. "All duct protection is UL listed without limitation of maximum duct length (unlimited length). This includes all varieties of ductworks both horizontal and vertical including ducts that run at angles to the horizontal and ducts with
directional bends."

Hope this helps

Mike,

ANSWERS IN CAPS

and meet the intent?

ALTHOUGH iIT MAY MEET THE INTENT IT DOESN'T MEET THE LISTING AND
THAT'S WHAT I'M CONCERNED WITH.

Any possibility of the UV duct hood cleaners and reduction of
protection, i.e. what I've heard about the B.C. experience?

THIS IS POSSIBLE--ROTO-CLONE, ELECTROSTATIC PRECIPITATOR, ACTIVATED
CHARCOAL FILTER, ETC., BUT I'D RATHER AVOID THESE EXPENSIVE AND
TYPICALLY MAINTENANCE NEGLECTED DEVICES.

If you use sprinks, can you recommend a "watertight" duct system with
enough slope to take the water to a "safe" place? Like outside?

GREASE DUCTS ARE WELDED AND THEREFORE GREASE/WATER TIGHT BY DESIGN.
EVERY TURN AND LOW POINT REQUIRES AN INSPECTION/CLEANING ACCESS PLATE
(ALSO GREASE TIGHT) AND WILL THEN EITHER DRAIN BACK TO THE HOOD, AN
ELBOW WITH ACCESS OR OUTSIDE.

I'd calc every one of them....... up to the equivalent design area of
the building.

I'D CALC EVERYONE ALSO BUT WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR IS GUIDANCE ON THE
HAZARD AND/OR DENSITY.
