I've not tried that with 1.25" Sch 5 pipe but one would think it'd bend
between 12' hanger spacing if 250# started hanging from it suddenly. Any
crimpers out there want to set a couple of bricks 12' apart? It won't screw
up your oven like previous experiments....

Even with steel pipe, you may find that you need to grab the hanger and not
the pipe. I did a simple empirical test with a 1'' pipe supported at
maximum spacings a few inches above the ground with a threaded tee in the
centre. Had a 220# plus guy stand on it and found that the pipe deformed
severely at the joints. (Can't remember if it snapped.)

This was to prove that the requirement of the standard is for the hangers
to be able to carry the 250# load and not the pipe.

Grab the hanger, not the pipe. Another reason to have smooth edges on CPVC
hangers!

Something to think about. Hangers are designed to take 5x wt of water
filled pipe +250 lbs. The 250 is supposedly to support a fitter if he
had to grab on to it in an emergency (or so I have been told). Has
anyone looked into if CPVC pipe could support a 250 lb person, even
with hangers designed for it?
