There has been some misunderstanding. RelMark has no issue with State Fire
Marshal office. RelMark is currently working with a joint taskforce of FFSA
and Florida AFSA regarding the rules and much cooperation is leading to some
good definition that we hope will lead to all contractors being on same page.
There is some new definitions of types of deficiencies and impairment and in
coordination with NFPA-25 task force on same subject some new proposed
definitions and deficiencies categorized by type in the works.

Subject: RE: NFPA 25 and Scope in Florida

Well, in Florida the waters got very muddy with the wording of the new state
law for Green/Red tag.

If a system is impaired it gets a red tag and according to Relmark, they can't
get answers from the state fire marshall defining the parameters. For now, most
companies are either green tagging everything or red tagging everything since
you can nearly always find a small problem, ie, missing hyd plates, sprinkler
eschs etc.

When you red tag a system for some of these small issues, you are getting
outside the scope of 25. Sprinklers in pockets were not usually considered 30
yrs ago, but now we are supposed to red tag it? A complete mess in my opinion.

Regarding chain vs electrical tampers, inspection frequency should also
be considered in the decision process. If I recall correctly, chain and
lock valves must be inspected weekly per 25. Electric tampers are
quarterly?
