Trusting to memory, which may not be the greatest, I recall that many, many
years ago IIT Research Institute's Fire Research Group ran a test on an
ordinary wood panel door with a single sprinkler discharging at 0.10 density
about 5 feet from the face of the door.  After an hour of fire exposure, they
stopped the test since there was no damage to the door.  The chief engineer of
that group and a good friend of mine, Tom Waterman, passed away some 10 years
ago.  I have no idea how to track down that study or their report.

P.S.  IIT (Illinois Institute of Technology) had the original FP Engineering
program started in 1900 when it was called Armour Institute of Tech (founded by
the Armours of Armour Meatpacking in Chicago).  It disbanded in 1985 with the
last graduating class of 15 Bachelors and 2 Masters.  Some of the more renowned
FPE's were graduates of that program including Chet Schirmer and Rolf Jensen.
Rolf chaired the department for a number of years in the 1960's.

I have a case where a contractor wants to put a decorative (not fire rated)
door into a rated hallway of a non-sprinkled building. I was hoping that there
was some code or study that allows for a water curtain to be placed on both
sides of the door in order to maintain the fire rating. Has anyone heard of
anything like this?
