Outside of the "Leakage" issue there is no reason that the water temp.
between 38 and 40'F would affect the operation of any of the components in
the static state. When the system flows and introduces that water, to say a
freezer dry system you may have an issue with ice build-up inside of the
pipe since the temp. is already so close to freezing.

Subject: Using chilled water storage for FP water source

In addition to yesterdays inquiry I've got another project which uses their
300K gallon chilled water storage tank as their main source for fire water.
The water temp is in the range of 38-40 degrees (F). They did have a
fitting separate some time ago and also have some significant leakage
issues, such that the jockey pump cycles on and off about every 3-4 minutes
going from around 150 psi up to 175 psi and back down to 150.

The question is, would the use of water at this temp. affect the gaskets in
the grooved fittings, or have any other significant affect on the system or
the system valves? We have an assortment of everything from dry, deluge,
preaction, foam, wet, etc.

This is a very large campus with 20" underground mains.
