The biggest mistake everyone "Geek" makes is thinking that "Their" stuff is
more valuable than it really is.
Let's face it by the time the last plug is put in a usb port, that equip. is
already out of date. In four years they'll be screaming to replace
everything with the "Newest" greatest and latest.

So just explain it this way if they only have a IT tech.
In small installations, NOT DATA CENTERS, the installation of standard fire
suppression, wet, systems will aid in the equipment optimization if it
discharges. This will allow the replacement of outdated equipment and
systems and allow the optimization of the IT system.

Now if the IT dept. has a CIO, the sell is a little different. CIO's know
that "Down time" and lost Data are the biggest IT cost's. So in that case
tell them that with automatic off site back-up the downtime and data
recovery will amount to hours, not weeks, and couldn't he really use the
additional money to provide a continuing upgrade service.

NOW REAL WORLD Economics'

Sell them both. A gas system set for 155'F response and a Pre Action system
with High temp response. Pocket the money and move on to the next job.

I can't imagine that computer equipment in a 12x12 room can be so
costly as to justify a fire system that will not protect the building
if it fails on it's one shot or justifies the additional cost of
back-up equipment (i.e.: multiple additional bottles) to provide for a
second try just to mitigate against a myth about accidental discharge
being a common problem in 12 x 12 computer rooms. Heads that fail by
themselves usually leak rather than discharge and the clumsy
maintenance guy and his ladder can be mitigated against by using a
single (12 x 12 room) concealed head. Rather, put in the wet head,
spend the extra twenty bucks to make it concealed and use the
thousands saved for off-site records back-up (records being the actual
valuable item, not the hardware--that is unless you can now get a
thermo-nuclear powered, cryogenically cooled, Cray Super Computer in a
12 x12 room these days).
