How about let the grooved couplings take care of the expansion. We have done some calculations on similar situations and found the amount of expansion is negligible when you consider its environment. After all it's an ambient system that will change temperature along with everything else. We have installed runs or 6" and 8" over 1500 ft long in ambient warehouses with no allowance for expansion other than the couplings. They are still there and we have yet to receive a phone call saying they are coming apart.
By the way an 1/8" per coupling over 900 ft. is about 5.5". What have my fellow forumites used for thermal expansion joints in the past? Metraflex Seismic loops are rather expensive for this. The Project engineer is trying to request to allow for 4" every 200 feet. I want to refute his request. -- Best regards, Charles Thurston mailto:[email protected] Coastal Fire Protection/ Myrtle Beach Fire & Safety Group.
