MY opinion.
I'm not a computer specialist but i have some electrical and electronic
expierence.
Some if not most of the solid state memory circuits, of which the Pram is
one, are made up of integrated components like MOSFET transistors.
Metal oxcide silicon field effect.
They are very sensitive and subject to damage by static electricity.

It is not necessary to keep a computer plugged into power while working
on it. It is not necessary to keep the computer grounded.
It is necessary is that you maintain body contact with the computer
so that both of you are the same potential.
