I see it spun as replacement to Struts:
http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=struts-user&m=105467147713194&w=2
Above says:
"the upcoming EA4 release of JavaServer Faces includes some pretty dramatic improvements in the C part of the equation "

So ... more of a replacement, I comprehended (Struts is View agnostic)
But, I am all about more competition! I want to use the most effective tool to build apps. Bring on JSF, competition makes it better.
I think it should be clear to people that they COULD use JSF among others. But give them choices. Velocity, JSF, Stxx, Expresso, Cleveland, tapestry...... and *I* think it not cool to imply that Struts developers thing users SHOULD replace Struts with JSF, there are other choices. And put files on apache.org.

Also... why not let Struts live? What's wrong with that.
ASF is supposed to protect projects from a single person deprecating it.
My hope was that this in April of 2002:
http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=struts-dev&m=101845337317906&w=2
says:
"That actually makes it easier to write a controller as a filter " was the direction to explore 2.3. What changed? Majority? It feels like a choke.

Above says Struts is dead, he comprehended same as I did.

It's a bit of railroading.
No precedent for this on ASF.
How much does JSF cost $? The promised components and IDE, when?

If Craig or anyone want's to leave Struts ... how is that an event? Many people left, Winterfeld left. He did not place a file on apache.org.

I say Struts should not be killed, but allowed to compete, fairly with JSF or others. Let's all do Oracle Cleveland and not do Struts.

Vic, my friend,

You're really not getting this.

JSTL is not a "replacement" for Struts. Nor JSF is a replacement for Struts. They are both technologies that you can use with Struts and get more bang for your development buck.

Some people are saying that with a really good implementation of JSF, you might need Struts. But since we don't have one of those, it's just guessing.

When the smoke clears, people will find JSF much easier to use with Struts than without. For very simple applications, you might not need Struts. Just as you could do a very simple application with Model 1 JSPs today.

You're reading way too much into things. The ASF is a non-profit organzation that is just about helping communities develop products. No more, no less.
