ahh... makes sense, so u wanna turn it into a scanning
station.

os9 is perfect for that, and it doesn't take too much
room. i remember way back when, when i was into
extensions and such that i pared down my base install
to something like around 110MB. i mean, compare that
with the 1.6GB base for OSX. jeez.

anyways, ebay is ur best bet. in fact, i would even
say that you should snag one of those Umax s900 on
ebay right now, just because, you'll get an extra hard
drive, probably the orginal 2GB scsi, an extra Apple
scsi CD rom, luckly a zip (how ya gonna transfer those
scans) and of course RAM. i think i've seen them go
for $40 without shipping. that's what i'd do. u'll
need the ram if all you have is something minimal. and
an extra video card. it's all worthless unless u need
it. the umax box inself in terms of value is dead dead
dead, but the components for scavenging are great.

or if you're lucky you'll get one of those $1-$5 apple
SCSI drives cause basically, nobody wants em. lucky
for u. of course, they'll flay u on the shipping.

just type in those keywords and u'll find what u need.
anyways, what kind of scanning are u doing? i think
those USB scanners are incredibly cheap nowadays. what
are they? $50? i mean, the money u spend on that old
umax can buy new stuff.

unless ur doing high-end print design where u'll need
the resolution and the ability to pick up the shadows
and highlight areas, and sharpness, i think any
consumer grade scanner will do. and they're cheap. and
usb is very portable. and mac/windows compatible too.
and macintel as well. haha
