Hi All, This is a very interesting discussion and I've been watching from the sidelines to see where it goes. Syndic8 is now over 4 years old, and some of the assumptions that were made at that time are no longer valid. We've got way more feeds than I ever hoped for, a great community, and lots of traffic. We've also accumulated some features over the years that slow the system down and which might not be needed any more.
After some discussion, Bill and I decided that it is time to come up with a new "vision" for what Syndic8 is and what it should be. To this end we are going to put up a Wiki very soon (gentle nudge to Bill :-) and we'll collect our ideas there. I would like to spend December plotting our the new vision and then start putting it into action in 2006. It would be very interesting for people to start thinking about what they would like Syndic8 to do for them, and what they want to do for it. We can start this here and then move it to the Wiki when it is ready. Here are some of my personal high and low points: Works well: * Great user community, lots of helpful people and lots of participation * Good collection of feeds * Lots of traffic to the site and good name recognition * Lots of usage of the API Works poorly: * Site is slow * Reviewing is a chore, with no clear reward or justification * UI is too complicated * Community's hard work isn't tabulated or recognized What I do for the site: * Write the code * Suggest lots of feeds * Answer emailed user questions (lost passwords, etc) * System admin * Deal with advertisers Your turn...
