I don't see any developer philosophy that "email shouldn't be able to
do html." TheBat! renders html just fine. What it doesn't do is
perform gets for embedded links within the html. For that reason I use
TheBat! as my only email client.

Raging tide? I've missed that. Those who are really concerned about
security and privacy issues have turned to TheBat! for a level of
protection from insidious email content. If you want/need this
exposure, Microsoft and its Outlook family will be more than happy to
help satisfy you. Outlook and other fully capable html-renderers will
be happy to execute embedded code, honor Web bugs, and other wonderful
concepts introduced by the leader in security-blind products.
