Hi Paul,

On Wednesday, October 16, 2002, 3:01 PM, you mentioned about "ATT Broadband
connections problems":

P> I have used UNIX since 1985, I would switch to Linux ( free red hat
P> 7.3 or 8.0) in a heartbeat IF I didn't have a wife & kids that live by
P> the MS products at home and work/school.

cool beans... I transferred my kid over to Linux for her homework...
can't start them too young... <g>

P> I might put together a Linux server soon, it's just not a high priority
P> right now. I also got the free copy of Corel WordPerfect for Linux with
P> their Corel LINUX distro, and I also have openOffice somewhere:) .

I use that and Codeweavers Office for Word if necessary.

P> For word processing ( ok, more like text editing) I've used VI/VIM, so
P> I'm not tied to WORD or OFFICE anything.

Yep, I live in VI(m) or Emacs.

P> I used Informix for our database needs, so I don't need windows for
P> much of anything.

I use MySQL *and* Oracle (free for non-commerical use)... Also have a LAN
fax server, and several other servers.

P> WELL, I DO like TheBat! so it might BE hard to get rid of Windows after
P> all!!:)

Ahh, this was my only hangup... I have used TB! in Linux, using WINE, and
it worked okay, except some features, i.e. spellcheck did not work. TB!
actually worked better in the earlier versions with this. Recently, it
has crashed under WINE, and I have not had the time to go into the WINE
server to fix the problem.. Frankly, I do not trust it for heavy duty,
important mail use yet. I do use TB! in VMWare using Windows, within
Linux. I just set the IP address for SMTP and POP to my LAN mail server..
and go from there. All TB! files/directories are utilized not in Windows
under VMWare, but right in Linux. (This saves VMWare disk space.) Since I
use Dispatch Mail from Server, mail is very easy to manage from what ever
I am in at the moment <g>

I have been an avid proponent for TB! coming out a Linux version, and from
what I have been told, it probably will come to pass. That would solve
all my needs, and certainly open up a tremendous market for TB! <g>

Best regards,

Today's thought: Why don't sheep shrink when it rains?
