I've seen things in the last couple of years that say that with the 
current high-density disk technologies, single-pass overwriting is as good 
as multiple passes.

basically, if that's not good enough for you, you need to go directly to 
destruction of the platters, multiple overwrites don't make a noticable 
difference.
