Honestly, I don't know.  That is pretty bizarre behavior.  It sounds
like the playback buffer is the issue, freezing up and not
continuously refreshing like it is supposed to.  A channel change
forces the buffer to clear and start over, so it makes sense that it
worked to 'fix' the issue.

Not sure what is causing it - corruption in the OS?  Drive problem?
Cosmic rays?
