where does iPeng lock up? iPeng reads _all_ stuff in the background in separate threads and while it can take a while to download tables it never locks up during that time. Loading tables is also not slower than with SqueezePad and while you can not use SqueezePad while it loads (it only shows a progress bar and no content), you can fully use iPeng as soon as the first page of content is loaded. The only thing iPeng does differently and that can put more load on the server is that it loads albums, artists and genres after startup even if you don't use them but the App itself stays responsive while you do this and you can e.g. open other menus.
There is ONE exception, but that has nothing to do with browsing the server: if you use iPeng's web browser under iOS 6 and you open a link that takes long to respond (JavaScript links are especially notorious here) it can indeed completely lock up, but that never happens while you use the normal menus to browse your server.
