> I hope Sparc will come back !
> I love Sparc since 1994

I think a lot of people, including myself, deep deep down, hope that SPARC will
come back.
I mean, who wouldn't want an UltraSPARC T2 or a SPARC64 VII in their system?
*Drool*
But the reality is, managers and gremiums, and not engineers run the show - at
least for right now.
And these people do not have the capacity to understand that if they churned
out dirt-cheap SPARChardware in the millions of units, instead of low quantity
high margin systems, they would increaseSPARC's market share to a point where
sheer volume would bring in enough profit beyond the highand unrealistic profit
margin.
Nobody except for the biggest companies will pay those prices for SPARC
nowadays, and this hasculminated in big and mighty Sun peddling itself to
anyone who'd be willing to front the cash.
This in itself isn't bad; it's the way of business; what is bad, however, is
that Sun, up to thelast second, stubbornly refused to adapt to the market
conditions.
Sun lost its mojo. ?And as a former hardcore Sun fan, it pains me deeply to
have had to stand by andwatch it.
Prices need to drop. ?SPARC hardware needs to start directly competing head to
head with i86pc DELLand hp junk. ?That's the only way for SPARC to survive,
because other than former Sun and Fujitsu, nobody else is on a commercial SPARC
trip.
