ImageMagick and GraphicsMagick actually seem to have very few hard dependencies for what you need if you build it yourself: libltdl freetype (needs zlib) fontconfig (needs expat) since gmic depends on GraphicsMagick and doesn't add anything you need, I don't see the advantage of using it.
