Pro-Tools now runs under Jaguar, but Pro-Tools is not shareware by any strech of the imagination. There are several open source multitrack programs being developed for Linux that might work in Jaguar, but most of these are still in alpha and are not close to having stable 1.0 versions. linux.org and linuxdj.org have listings about what is available and what version levels they are at. A Google search will also lead you to info on what's out. Although I'm very much in favor off using open source GPL software when possible, I would recommend that if you are using your software working for clients who are paying you by the hour, that you consider a commercial software package like Audiodesk http://www.motu.com to tie you over until a competitive open source multitrack DAW comes to market. You will also need to make sure that your audio hardware will work with your app under X. There have been reports that MOTU's firewire boxes have driver problems and that some of Digidesign's older hardware have no X drivers at all. The DAW-MAC list on Yahoo Groups is an excellent resource for this kind of information. I do record production for a living and have a ton of experence with DAW and MIDI apps. If you have questions, feel free to ask me off list. Peter Carli -- "What is playing on the radio today happened somewhere else yesterday."
