I guess they do make them. Here appears to be one: http://messe.harmony-central.com/Musikmesse04/Content/TerraTec/PR/ MIDI-Hubble.html

I've used the M-Audio and Roland on a Mac Mini and a "Beige G4" respectively, when I was trying to transfer a score from Garageband. It didn't work all that well... the MIDI part worked but I couldn't convince Garbageband to cooperate. I did manage to get MIDI events out of GB to a file, but I couldn't get it to toalk to a MIDI redirector.

By the way, just to ramble on, is it possible that there could ever be a usb2.0 to firewire adapter, so that you could use usb 2.0 through your firewire port? I'm sure I just exposed my vast ignorance with this question. And is anyone out there succesfully using USB 2.0 on an unsupported Mac via PCI?

I was using USB 2.0 on my "Beige G4" under Jaguar. There are several cheap USB 2.0 PCI cards that work just fine with the Apple drivers. I was able to find a 5-port USB 2.0 plus Firewire 400 that worked.
