I would suspect that Leopard will run on a G3, because in the past the "horizon" of supported Macs has been about 5 years.

G4 iBook didn't come out until 2003, and the "new style" G3 iBooks came out in 2001 after the G4 Powerbook.

G4 iMac in 2002, so that probably won't stop them. But I don't see them obsoleting the Icebook yet.
