I don't know about G3's. The current iLife suite says it requires a G4. So Apple already is dropping G3 support. Though iLife '06 does run on a G3 (I had to copy it from one of my G4 machines).

The G4 requirement for iLife is largely due to Garage Band and iDVD, both of which make heavy use of Altivec.

Ya, in general, iLife 6 requires a 400-MHz+ PPC G3, G4 or G5 and Mac OS X 10.3.6 or later.

But the specifics can kill LEMers...

iTunes 6 works ok on slower machines, if you turn off all the fancy graphics and don't mind it sucking up 50% or more of your CPU. I've found that iTunes stutters when playing streaming audio on anything less than a 500-MHz CPU. Pitiful, especially since Audion and Wamb can do handle ops with no feelable impact on even a 300-MHz Mac.

iPhoto 5 displays thumbnails almost 5x slower than its predicessor. I'm told this is QuickTime's fault, but iPhoto 2 doesn't have the problem even with the newest QuickTime installed. Apps like GraphicConverter don't have this problem.

GarageBand 2 requires a 600-MHz G3 or faster. G4 for some features.

iDVD 5 is unable to process some video if the machine is slower than a 733-MHz G4. It requires a 1-GHz+ to use HD features.
