Hi Daniel and Aimee

Hi, I'm a new user of the product and I'm curious; what's the purpose of developing OpenOffice? It seems there's already a couple of Microsoft solutions out there for folks who need word processing, database, spreadsheet capabilities; just wondering why the push to develop this suite.

There have always been alternatives to Microsoft software. Notable examples of office suites include the Lotus Smartsuite and Corel Office (which includes WordPerfect). Microsoft were certainly not the first to develop software like this, either - so they seem to appreciate the need to have alternatives, and created some!

I'm personally very glad that there are alternatives, and have often found that the non-Microsoft alternatives have met my needs better.

Microsoft seem to be working very hard to destroy all non-Microsoft alternatives, and this is an effort I don't support. Competition is good for everyone, including Microsoft supporters.

Adrian
