I still think the UTF abstractions I've been seeing so far are extremely
leaky
and don't do a good job of encapsulation [1]. But I now realize that this
should
be seen as a separate issue and goes beyond the scope of what my patch is
trying
to accomplish.
This code could definitely use a refresh. The duplication is probably just
historical/seemed like a good idea at the time sort of thing. It really
should
all be templatized/abstracted into the unicode files without knowledge of
String
as you say.
