  VBox was not working long enough for that to occur.
The reason I gave it only 60 secs was because I assumed (ptobably wrongly) that 
it should finish before the 'sar' scans 
finished.

I could repeat it and give it a longer time if you wish.

Actually, I'm coming round to the idea that the VDI has now become corrupted, 
as I can no longer start up one of the 
apps in the normal way, though this has happened much later than the disk 
thrashing episodes. but it might be the tip of 
the iceberg...

So I've reverted to a backup copy of the VDI and will check that out with 
4.0.6; it seems happy with 4.0.2.
