This is pretty SOP for folks who do identity design (as you probably know). Although sameness is very important, in reality, to *look the same* is more important than *being the same*. Adaptation is often required for small sizes on low-resolution media (like displays) ... to typography in particular.
I like the concept, I'm comfortable with the "vibe" of it (am not concerned about corporate-ness) but I agree that the wrench isn't perhaps the most "web" thing. Of course, I don't have a better suggestion. :-)
