Thanks Alexander,
This has been helpful, and I've tried to make them as reproducible
as possible to make fixing them easier. Montage is driven by
volunteer
developers though, and unfortunately both active developers have
currently a lot going on - we hope to get some of the low hanging
fruit
out of the way - but it's not possible to make a hard commitment.
>From
what I understand, we expect some improvements to happen over the
next
weeks. Nobody likes this situation, but it's also a reality of open
source volunteer-driven development. I understand that this is
disappointing.
There are currently two things people can do to help:
* Help find the reproduction steps: if the developer knows exactly
which
set of steps to perform to find the bug, that helps them a lot and
saves
a lot of time in searching. We have a beta-version of the platform in
parallel, which you could use to test out these issues in more
detail,
if you're interested. It might be the case that some of the
experiences
you're having an interaction with the fact that you have very big
campaigns. If we know that something is a problem with a campaign of
10000 images, but the same juror does not have this problem with 100
images, that is incredibly helpful in finding the root cause.
* If there are other developers that want to help out, I would
encourage
them to reach out (see GitHub <https://github.com/hatnote/montage>).
It is also helpful that you're indicating which issues are the
biggest
problems, this does help with prioritization.
Best,
Lodewijk
(writing this in a personal capacity - just doing my best to help
out!)

Dear Ciell and all,
In the last days, we submitted two new bug reports (#330 and 331).
Regrettably, there was no response, nor was there any visible
activity
on the previous ones. Even their priorities were not assigned. For
example, it is dismaying to see that the voting statistics (#325)
has no
priority.
What makes things worse is that the two last bug reports are not
about
mere inconveniences in the grading process. They basically make the
grading impossible, at least within our campaign #965. We are not
sure
what causes these issues and why they were not seen before. With
20000+
images, the campaign is quite big compared to any of the WLE
campaigns,
and these critical issues started to appear after a few thousands of
images have been voted. However, we could certainly handle over 20000
images before. The inability to do it now is truly discouraging.
Therefore, I would like to ask again on the concrete timeline for
addressing these issues. We need a clear perspective. Otherwise, we
will
have to search for alternative solutions, because Montage (in its
current version) is unusable at the moment, at least for us.
Thank you in advance,
Alexander

Thanks for submitting the issues in Github both!
It's interesting that these did not surface in previous Montage
campaigns we had this year. Since the new front-end, and the
backend
update, we already had Wiki Loves Folklore, Wiki Loves Earth and
Wiki
Loves Africa, plus several smaller photo competitions that use
the tool
for their jury process. The developers are now accessing the
cause of
these errors, and will follow up accordingly.

Ciell

Hello,
one of my collaborator (for WLM in Sicily) added a report on
GitHub
aswell (https://github.com/hatnote/montage/issues/327
<https://github.com/hatnote/montage/issues/327> <https://
github.com/hatnote/montage/issues/327 [1]
montage/issues/327>>).
I'm writing here to follow up for the point number 3 and 4:
3. About the "previous votes editing" it is true that you can
only see
15 images; ok for performance reason but I'd expect or a
"load more"
button or multiple pages scrolling. Maybe a bit related,
sometimes it
says also "thank you, you voted the full set" while it is not
true or
the loading is delayed.
4. Interface errors - keyboard voting causes UI jumping (When
voting
with the keyboard arrows, the interface jumps up and down
continuously):
as you know, is possible to accept or decline an image also
with up or
down arrow; without a large screen, the page (especially the
right
column with informations) will not be fully displayed but
will have a
scroll bar, so when pressing the arrows (especially if you
alternative
upvote and decline) the content will move up and down.
Both Antonino (who submitted the issue on GitHub) and I have
already
completed round one, so we're unable to record a video to
demonstrate
the (minor) issue.
As the campaign coordinator, I'd also like to point out that the
"Voting
Details" tab is empty and does not display the pie chart with
the votes.

Hello!
The interface of Montage has changed this year, and
many of
these
changes are mediocre, as our jurors report:
1. 'Skip' button does not put the photo in the end of
the line.
Instead,
the same photo is displayed again after 2-3 other photos.
Effectively,
there is no way to leave a photo for later
consideration, so
the
'Skip'
button is not useful any more.
2. 'Edit previous photos' can not be opened in a separate
tab in
the
browser. One has to open it in the same tab, then
return to the
voting,
and wait until it loads. That's very annoying.
Moreover, a
misleading
message 'All done! You voted on all photos...' appears
during the
loading.
3. The 'Edit votes' window no longer contains links
to the
images.
Once
you vote on an image, you can't open it in full size
any more.
4. 'Edit previous photos' window loads very slowly,
sometimes it
loads
the last 15 photos only. That was not the case in the
past.
5. The threshold value for the image resolution can
not be set
during
the import. The default value of 2 MP is used implicitly.
6. Importing images produces an optimistic message 'Round
successfully
created', along with an empty round that returns an
error upon
pressing
the 'Activate' button. Only after a delay of 2-3 min
do the
photos
appear, but during this period it's impossible to see if
they are
being
imported, or an error occurred during the import.
What is the best way to reach the current developer of
Montage and
get
these things fixed on a short notice? Ideally, I
would ask to
bring
back
the old interface, because it worked much better than the
current
one.
In fact, I did not notice any improvements in the new
interface.
All
the
old bugs (incomprehensible errors during import, error
messages on
deleting the round, etc.) are still there, so the
benefits
of the
new
interface are not entirely clear to me at this point.
Thank you in advance!
best,
Alexander
