and that personally just breaks my heart. :)

seriously, if they're annoyed that they're not in there, then they're
more concerned with pirating the latest games (jeez, I'm sounding like
smf more and more) than they are with emulation in general. apparently
you weren't around, or don't remember, when UltraHLE was released. The
emulation "scene", while always having an undercurrent of piracy, went
completely towards the piracy angle. IRC channels were flooded with
lamers asking "n64 romz plz", and emulation in general got much more
attention than it really wanted. kinda hard to make an argument that
emulation is about preserving a piece of history when people are
emulating games that are currently making money in the arcades.

I honestly don't care if people get frustrated when nobody on the list
answers their questions of how to play games that aren't included in
mame. they'll just run nebula or something under WINE, and stop their
complaining. or stay in windows. seeing people beg for roms or beg for
support tends to make a person bitter. you start off answering
questions, but after a while, your answers are trite, and sometimes no
more than a "speak to the hand" gesture. you stop caring about the
issue, and refuse to waste the half-life of a few brain cells spending
time answering.

I have the aforementioned roms, but I'm not in a real big hurry to keep
xmame actively patched, as the games aren't really that good, and
they'll stay nice and safe on my drive until mame supports them proper.

yeah, and the clever ones will just glean what they can from the list,
and then use what they've gained from places like cps2shock, etc. to
work further, because they've seen that this list isn't really a good
place to ask. if anything, I'd encourage people to hack around the
source, as it's a damn good way to learn, and maybe in 3 years their
patches could be included in the main tree. but yeah, pointing them
towards any sort of policy (if one were written) would be the ideal
solution.

man, you haven't ever worked at a call center, have you? :)
