Probably more of the value of the board one really i guess. I suppose it could seem a little pointless putting the game in if noone could play it.
Although in these two cases, i still possess the boards and the chances of me selling them are slim as i like them for being unusual. But however unlikely it may be, they ARE only rom variations (the Lady Bug on Galaxian using a different program board), so it would not be at all difficult for someone to burn the roms and then miraculously, it's @@LOOK RARE@@ on ebay all of a sudden.
Have to say it hasn't happened, so cool, but there's something about knowing you have the only known copy of something in left existence. (I stress the _KNOWN_ copy bit!)
I dunno, as i say, it got my back up at the time. Now it's more just a case of how do these things spread? When i thought the mame team were against that!

PS: I don't have any insight on its distribution either. Really i'm just a random user too. Just that i happen to be a programmer by trade, so when i do get an unemulated board, i like to try to do the driver changes myself and pass them on to someone that can submit them. I primarily use mame for things like hacking code on the game boards for (say) swapping controls or inverting the screen via the debug console.

interesting conundrum... have the support for the game, but not allow the rom to be distributed. I was always of the opinion that the people submitting rom dumps didn't care if the roms were distributed.
what was your problem with the distribution? was it that you didn't want to have any sort of ties to the spread, or perhaps that the value of your board had been lessened? I'm sorta grasping at straws here, because I honestly figured that to submit the rom was to consent to it's eventual distribution.
of course, I'm just a random mame user, and don't have insight on much of the actual development.
