Yes, really strange... I don't agree. My 2 cents : One example : I have one webserver at home and only 1 public IP. I have some web sites on PHP and some very few intranet pages on aolserver/TCL. I wanted to use aolserver, and virtual hosts. Because for personal use I prefer to use aolserver/TCL rather than apache/PHP. Bad.. PHP and virtual hosting in aolserver are not working. So... I am using Apache, and recoded quickly the few intranet tcl pages (about 10 pages) in php. I still do not like what I did, because I am just not using aolserver anymore. My customers keep me very busy ( :-( ) and I didn't find time to hack the php module to make it work with aolserver virtual hosts (if it can be done), but I would love to do it when I get time. (By the way, I have also a pg util module I have developed that I should make public...) So, handling PHP in aolserver could have the advantage of giving the oppotunity to a lot of "geeks" to try aolserver and give it some visibility. You may strongly disagree ;-). I am a very bad marketing guy.
