All this dog eat dog business reminds me of the time I was involved in the setting up of the College of Agriculture (NEHU) at Ghaspani (Medziphema), Nagaland.  As we were representing the whole of the North-East, we had admitted students from all the seven-sister States (Assam did not send a representative).  Now, the student hostels were common and we did not especially allot students according to caste, community, religion, or linguistic preference.  The student MESS was also common.
