Whenever you play anything you get a resulting "sound" but my aim is to
make this sound the sound of the recording. Unfortunately, it isn't
possible to play the sound of real things through a hi-fi, just
recordings. This is why accuracy and transparency doesn't always sound
the "nicest" and the most "realistic sounding" - although my impression
is that accuracy is never unpleasant.

It's a matter of taste whether accuracy or making most of your
recordings "sound better" makes a better system. If you want more
accurate equipment it does exist - the question is whether you want it.
It's perfectly valid not to.
