I've only built one {,b}lfs system so far, & i added these packages from 
blfs while still in the chroot:- iptables, gpm, openssl, lynx, wget. 
With those installed, i then rebooted into my new system & continued the 
build from there.

After reading this thread, i've had a bit of a play & discovered that it 
would be possible (but not particularly convenient or secure) to install 
just wget for source-downloading, & save a copy of the blfs-book 
locally, as html-pages can be read with 'less' - navigation is fiddly 
without hyperlinks, & these's no stylised boxes to highlight codeblocks, 
but the text is properly formatted. It's certainly no worse than 
plain-text or info-style formats, & requires no conversion (i'd still 
recommend gpm as well as wget, though, for copy/paste functionality in 
the console).

Apologies if 'less' was mentioned earlier - it's become quite a long 
thread... ;)
