When you are squeezing the terminals, it is best to use crimping pliers rather than ordinary ones, the result gives a more symmetrical terminal.

I've had to squeeze them a few times on my tape. And I also found you have to use a good quality battery or you get all the memory problems they talked about. ----- Original Message ----- From: Darren Brewer To: [email protected] Sent: Sunday, November 25, 2007 8:25 AM Subject: Re: [BlindHandyMan] Cobolt Talking Tape Measure Hi Scott That sounds like the one I've just purchased. No problems so far. The trouble with battery operated devices is that you are constantly taking the batteries in and out which obviously stresses the clips. I believe that as long as you are careful and not too rough when removing or inserting the battery, the clips should last a reasonable amount of time before coming loose or breaking off. Although if they were faulty or loose to begin with then there is not much you can do about that. Someone recently mentioned on here about there cobolt measure not working all the time. From what they described it sounded like the PP3 connector was not engaging on the battery terminals properly. Sometimes you have to take a pair of pliers and gently squeeze the cross shaped terminals together slightly so that they grip onto the round terminal of the battery and vice versa. I've had to do this a few times and it seems to solve the problem. The damned piece of metal that presses against the negative side of the battery came off and I've not been able to figure out how to connect it back to the case. It would be nice if some manufacturer would produce such a device that wasn't so expensive or if it can't be made at a totally reasonable price, it would at least not fall apart. This is my second talking tape measure and quite frankly I've been very disappointed in both units from both manufacturers.
