I guess it might work for a day sailor but for a 6 ton C27 with all the rigging, etc. And with the mast up then you've got all that windage area to worry about getting blown over in a blow - I've seen that happen more than once. Personally, I'd be a little leery of the whole set up. Seems like a lot of effort and risk to save on a gallon of bottom paint. But that's just my 2 cents.

My source of the lift suggests that I do not need to support the keel, instead just let it hand below and support the hull. He suggested that I use a pair of carpeted rails that run almost the length of the boat and mostly under the boat to support it and let the keel hang in the open air.
