Joe, I this like a marine railway operation?
Remember the bottom of a C27 keel is not level to the waterline. The old factory cradle sketch (which is in the FTP Gallery of the C27 website) ignores the angle but you should not. At the very least you should make sure the keel is not supported aft of the keel trunk. When the keel is support by a hard flat surface that is parallel to the waterline it puts an extreme amount of pressure on the unsupported tip of the keel. This in turn attempts to pry the keel off the boat. Typically the floor of the keel stub cold flows over months letting the front of the keel pull away from the stub. I don't recall the specific angle but I can extract it from the lines drawing when you're ready. My source of the lift suggests that I do not need to support the keel, instead just let it hand below and support the hull. He suggested that I use a pair of carpeted rails that run almost the length of the boat and mostly under the boat to support it and let the keel hang in the open air. When you trailer, the mast is down. When you say lift, do you mean hoist, or one of those floating things? They sent me one when I was inquiring about trailering. It was specifically for the C-27 that had all the dimensions for the factory cradle. The one I had is no where to be found. Jeff -----Original Message----- From: Joe McCary <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [email protected] Sent: Tue, 8 Apr 2008 1:23 pm Subject: catalina27-talk: Dry Sailing a Catalina 27 I am considering getting a lift for the Catalina 27. This would allow me to dry sail the boat and not to worry with bottom paint. A neighbor has one and we are negotiating on the price. My question here is how would I best rig a cradle to hold the hoisted boat? Any suggestions as to size and dimensions or shape would be appreciated. Actual plans might be a good idea if anyone has them. Does anyone know of a Catalina 27 that is hoisted on a lift in this manner?
