cultures have existed in India. But as a nation it has not. The Mogul empire (the dregs of which were overthrown by the British) and the numerous small kingdoms in India at the beginning of the 1800's were very different from the kingdoms that existed in Alexander's time or in 1947. if anything the one big thing britain did was to unify India and give it a constitutional system.
