I'll chime in my $.02 worth here... and I agree with clint. I had a built 700R4 behind a rather stout 355 and 406 and never had a problem. I know a guy with a Art Carr Built 700R4 in his mud/off-road truck with a FI BBC and 44" tires. So being the 700 survived.... I would say you can make a 200r4 live with the best of them. They seem to get a bad rep for 2 main reasons... one people don't get the converter locking up so they puke or they don't beef them up or take them to a crappy tranny shop that doesn't know how to rebuild 700 and 200's. They are rather tricky to rebuild RIGHT, thus tranny shops had fits with them back in the mid 80's and still today you see them rebuilt wrong (as you do with a lot of other trannys IMO). IMO it doesn't matter what tranny you are running... whether it is a glide, a 200 or a th350 or th400... they all need modifications to handle good power, some just need a bit more then other. I just ripped apart a C6 from my buddy's ride that was supposibly rebuilt with some modifications, but it puked after about 5,000 miles... the 3 clutch packs in the 6 cylinder models just don't cut it... so gonna upgrade to the 5 packs used in the C6's behind 460's. I don't know the 200 as well as the 700... but I know that a custom servo, some valve body and plate mods, a sungear shell, upgraded sprag, upgraded regulator and extra clutch packs will go a pretty long way making your tranny live.
