The best deals I've found are on the Apple site, store.apple.com, tag sale for refurbs--scroll down to the tag on the right. We've bought several Macs and iPods at terrific discounts online from Apple, and they carry a full warranty. Smalldog.com is also an excellent reseller; their garage sale is amazing. Smalldog also has one of the best discounts on AppleCare.

I buy a lot of things on eBay, but would only buy a new computer at an ebay online store if it's the manufacturer's outlet, like DFS, or if I know the seller. I found Cavan's first iMac at PowerOn.com; they also have an eBay store [hot deals on iBooks and eMacs today]. He bought his first iPod from an individual through eBay--but not a computer.

The first place I check when I go to the CompUSA in Wilmington, Delaware, is the markdowns section. Bob got a new G4 tower there a few years ago--a return that was marked down +$400 [he phoned me, said the price, and asked, "Do I need a new computer?"]. About a month ago, a friend got there ahead of me and grabbed a used iBook G4/1.2GHz for $100. It needed minor repairs, so he took it apart, added a $10 part, and it works fine.

Yes, we've purchased items from sellers more than once, but not computers--bought cell phone/parts, DVDs, batteries, etc. BTW, there were some fine working Bondi iMacs at the recycle trailer at our local landfill.
