I've been following this thread. What I'm hearing is this:

-- The devinfo community would like to have more involvement and control
over the contribs process.

-- Part of accomplishing this is to have a community accessible and
community managed contrib server (for storage of rpms, howtos, etc.)

-- Hinted at but not directly addressed is the desire by some to have some
project management tools for doing collaborative work.

-- Mitel gains by having devinfo extending the SME system.

-- Mitel is all for hosting contribs and what-not.

-- Mitel has never been really great at addressing the remainder of the
devinfo wishlist. (Mitel can't/won't help because there is not enough time,
not enough resources, "Project X" is not in the Mitel plan, etc.)

Maybe it is time for Mitel to host and facilitate the mechanics of the
contrib portion of the site, but to release control of that area/function to
the devinfo community. That seems to be the natural compromise position.

On the other hand, if Mitel is not willing or able to provide more than
hosting services for contribs, or will not open up a greater level of
control over the contrib system to the community through the the assignment
of user-moderators, then the community should provide their own solution.
Mitel can always mine the devinfo communities site for ideas and bug fixes,
probably just as easily as with the current approach.

My two-cents worth.
