I would like to comment;

IMO the Tucows parking service is an added value to you and your
customer. It not only allows you an additional revenue share so you can
offset the cost of your domain purchases, but if set up correctly it
provides additional notice to the customer when their domain is expired.
Using the CSS header file you can create an image that advises the
customer they need to renew their domain. You can add an email or link
with specific instructions. This is a service!!

Why in the world would you want to Opt out! Look around folks, the
domain industry has changed. For over 18 months other registrars such as
Network Solutions, Enom, Dotster and a mired of others have been
participating in these same type of programs.

I would email the customer letting them know that as a service to them,
"our registrar has provided a place holder for your expired domain." The
alternative may have resulted in a complete loss of the name not to
mention the fact that you would have lost ALL search engine placement.
"We are glad you found us, to renew your domain and IMMEDIATLY delegate
the DNS back to the authoritative name servers where your pages reside,
follow these instructions.....
