Good Evening,

I hiked the southern edge of the property to take advantage of the sunny day.  Alders have self pruned; in some cases the entire tree.  They don't like to lose direct sunlight.  Now there is open space where the elk and deer bed down.  Ferns have fallen due to the cold.  This let me see the ground and avoid mountain beaver holes.  I stepped on a hoof hardened elk trail and thought I was on stable ground.  A few steps later my left foot was stuck a foot below ground level in one of their burrows.  It took a minute to get free; good thing they had loosened the soil.

The sun is quite active.  At least two CMEs have hit the earth's ionosphere.  More are due in succession.  Spaceweather.com reports we are currently in a geomagnetic storm.  QSB should be quite interesting tomorrow.  Hopefully the noise will not overwhelm our signals.  We shall see.  Note the time change: local time remains the same (in most parts of the US) while the universal time changes.  One day we may shed ourselves of Ben's innovation, the US may also turn metric.
