>I have a lot of mail

You look for incoming mail in the In Box and if mail actions to file in
other folders have been applied to the remainder of the incoming mail,
you can view it in the Auto File Log without going to individual folders.
You can set up your mail actions to color code by priority and/or to
file in specific folders all incoming mail. I have my mail actions set
so that all Emailer list mail is filed directly in an Emailer List Folder
and the Priority is set and named specifically. All emailer list emails
could be labeled so that the Auto File log can be sorted by Priority or
by What folder they were filed in. Any incoming mail to which an action
is not applied goes to the "IN" box.

>But, I *am* concerned that the "Where are you ??" message is not showing
>up in my inbox. Who wants to know where I am? So now, I have to look
>through my logs,
You don't have to look in multiple folders, just look in the most recent
Auto File Log. I sounds like you may not be placing "New Logs" into your
In Box where your Auto File Log would be readily viewable as you receive
your new mail. That setting is in Preferences. Then you don't even have
to look in the "Logs" folder. Everything is in your In Box.
>or look into multiple folders to see who wants to know
>where I am.
If it was someone from a mailing list which you filed based on the
sender's address, it should be in that folder and in the Auto File Log.
If it was a personal email (ie no mail action applied), it should land in
the "In" Box unless you perform mail actions on mail from specific
people. If you don't know which list wanted to know "where are you", you
could just sort the auto file log by subject. "Where are you?" would show
up in the "w's' and then if you name your mail action by the list to
which it belongs or the folder to which you have sorted it, you should be
able to find it easily in that folder. Better yet, you can also read it
directly from the auto file log without even going to the folder. I have
the sense you are not understading the capabilities of the auto file log.
Priorities can be Named and color-coded in Preferences and then assigned
to a mail action. The Auto File Log listing can be sorted like any
folder by clicking on any of the column headings. Do you have your Mail
Actions Preferences checked to create a New Auto-file log by default.
That way a new log is created every time you retrieve mail (provided you
have opened the file log created for the previous email retrieval).

I am a pretty low level user, but I, too, am having trouble seeing your
problem. I have color-coded my various lists and miscellaneous mail
actions, filed my email into specific folders that I did not want in my
In Box, and use the Auto file log to read that "non-In-Box" mail each
time I retrieve mail. I rarely need to go to the folders where I have
filed/sorted the mail to read it.

>On other lists that I am on, they all have the [] in th subject line, and
>I know when I see those rolling in, I don't have to even think about it.
>I know they are being filed in the right place, if I see the [] I just
>ignore the message. When I scan the subject lines as they are coming in,
>I am only looking for personal emails or business emails.
Actually, I have a question for you. When I am reading the Connection
Status Window, it only tells me I am receiving message 1,2, etc of 20 or
whatever. It does not tell me the title of the message. How do you set
it up to do that? Is that a difference in dialing in via modem vs
collecting via TCP/IP or while logged in to the internet?

>That is why a mail action does not adress it. It happened again for me
>with the "Too Dumb" subject line as well....
My mail action filed the "Too Dumb" message in my Emailer folder. I have
my mail actions based on the *From* *not* the subject line contents.
Perhaps that is how you could correct your problem for the Emailer list
anyway. Use the sender as the primary filtering for the mail action. It
sounds like you are using the Subject line contents as the filtering
mechanism.

Every now and then my filtering misses an occasional list email and puts
it in my "In Box". But when I read it, I see the error and manually file
it. It happens so infrequently that I have not bothered to figure out
why it occasionally errs.

Of course, I may be totally misunderstanding the problem, but I thought I
would offer my input anyway. So many have helped me on this list over
the last 2.5 years, I thought another perspective might help you.
