Thanks everyone for your continued help and support.  I've calmed down
a bit, but it still seems as though if 1 smart EMC developer decided
to spend a couple of days on this he or she could create a little
wizard that did all this work for you, resulting in a card that
worked, and saving hundreds of us (esp. those of us who do not have a
strong unix background) tons of frustration.  So I'd be the first in
line to send beer to any volunteer who wants to take that on...

i might look at the mesa simply because currently time is such a rare commodity.

But I will look at this again when time permits (unfortunately several
weeks out) and if i still can't get it running I'll send out a
beer+logmein request :-)

Andy, is the mesa 5i25 compatible with the CNC4PC pendant? and how
hard is the mesa to install/configure?  Looking at the docs I fear it
might be another rabbit hole - unless it has a wizard :-)
