Hmm. This leads me to ask if there's a filter for PS that will emulate
an IR camera. Or, can one be cobbled up somehow? If the sensors reach
into the IR region, it should be possible. Or is there a physical IR
filter interposed ahead of the sensors to cut off the longer wavelengths?
Our fearless leader seems to be an IR expert, so perhaps he will stoop to
answer.
To Roger and the group,
Digital sensors do indeed see into the infrared region. That is the reason
why manufacturers use some type of IR blocking filter over the camera
sensors to prevent "false colors" - anything outside of human vision - and
prevent errors in auto-exposure.
It is possible to emulate the IR look (in normal photographs) in post
production, but the results would be more like using a red filter on
panchromatic film. This would be a pale imitation of true infrared
photography where most of the visual spectrum is suppressed in order to
emphasize the IR band.
