Apparently there has never been a scientific, double-blind
test that proves that there is a physiological state that
corresponds to a state of 'transcendental consciousness'.
If that were the case, then you'd have a Copernican revolution
in physics - a purely mental technique that could cause
physical change.
Willy, fortunately, that's not the case.
The EEG signature of samadhi was first noticed in Patanjali yogins way
back in the 1950's. However it wasn't replicated until relatively
recently in some western Buddhist yogis. That's significant since it
represents the first discovery of samadhi in a westerner. It was
pretty impressive since they could go into samadhi for 'as long as
needed' for the researchers, sometime 3 hours at a time.
"Purely mental techniques" like TM are great for nap-like relaxation
though and, of course, relaxation is good for you. There are many
relaxation techniques that produce that classic TM buzz you seem quite
addicted to.
How come they never "wired-up" the Marshy to check his EEG?
