As MMY has said the best indicator of TC is "zero metabolic rate" as

Well, he may have said that. That doesn't mean it's true.
As of now, i.e 2009 CE, the largest reduction in metabolic rate in a
meditator ever recorded was 64% and that was recorded by Herbert
Benson on a Tibetan Buddhist yogi.
Additionally, techniques like TM using mantras are legitimate forms
of Yoga as defined even by Paramahansa Yogananda, the only
difference is TM is a passive approach that produces "conscious
sleep", with Kriya Yoga concentration is employed keeping the body
and consciousness steady at all times and gradually raising the
consciousness in a conscious, concentrated manner, more difficult
IMO but more reliable when mastered apparently.
Sadly the only evidence of "conscious sleep" in TM was from a person
suffering from central sleep apnea. People in central sleep apnea
describe a horrible experience: that of being "held" just above the
threshold of actual sleep. It's a very unpleasant feeling, like sleep-
deprivation torture. Conscious or "yogic' sleep is the direct
opposite: it's not only pleasurable, it's extremely rejuvenating to
the person. You only need a couple of hours of yogic sleep. As I've
shared here before: some adepts only need a mere hour of it.
They did put out press releases touting that they had found someone
"in CC", but it turned out to be, well...'other than'. :-)
